Orba
Orba is a delightful Spanish country village with a total population of around 1,600. It is situated 20 minutes inland from the popular coastal resorts of Javea and Denia, and a little over 1 hour drive from the airports of Valencia and Alicante.
The village, a 5 minute walk away, has all the facilities required to support your holiday, including a small supermarket, various shops - butchers, bakers, greengrocer, off-licence, newsagent, banks, a pharmacy, medical and dental surgeries, plus many bars and restaurants. Orba also has a weekly market on Wednesdays. Some English is spoken, so a minimal knowledge of Spanish is usually enough.
Orba is a village proud of its Moorish past. The name, Orba, originates from the Arabic Ur-Obia meaning 'the place where water springs from the mountain'. The Moorish origins of the village can be seen in the pottery and agricultural/Moorish structure of the locality. Its economy is essentially farming with a trend toward the monoculture of citrus fruits, though almonds, carob and olives are also grown. Ceramics are produced and there is also a bag making industry.
