Dine Out

You're never far away from really good and remarkably priced food and drink at our villa. The village of Orba has many local restaurants, eating places and pubs. You can go out to eat locally every evening for a week, and never have to go back to the same place twice. Dependant upon the restaurant you choose, the style of food varies from Spanish specialities, through pizzas and pastas, to fish and chips.

ORBA - within walking distance

There are several cafes, bars and restaurants nearer than the Orba church, which can be seen from the villa and is only a ten minute walk. ‘Menu del dia’ usually includes 3 courses and wine, water or beer. Most restaurants will have a bar where you can just go in for a drink and have some tapas if you wish. Several close early in the week. Children are usually welcome and it is not uncommon in the restaurants just to have an extra plate and to share your ample meal with them. The chef will also usually be happy to cook a little dish for the child.
Please see the folder in the villa containing cards for restaurants and telephone numbers for booking. As in the UK booking is more advisable at weekends.

Restaurants

La Venta del Vi - German owned, simple food. When open, menu del dia displayed outside.

Forn Vell - English run Pub.  Open every day. Fish and chips Friday evening.

El Cantaro - German owned. Very close, but very steep hill and high price, so taking the car is recommended.

Just a little further into Orba:

Awarba - On the main street. Impressive well lit room also rear courtyard, very clean. Good food: (Ewan and Gail)

Les Arcades - Small, Spanish owned. Just our side of the church square.

La Placa (Hostel) - A tapas bar, restaurant and small hotel located just off the main square. Simple Spanish food, good value.

El Quixote - On the edge of the village, the road towards Benidoleig. Good inexpensive Spanish food.

Indian restaurant and takeaway by the petrol station.

El Nou Portet. On the hill towards Alcalali. Recently refurbished in some style. Will be a little more expensive for excellent quality. Service can be slow. Evening booking adviseable to avoid upsetting the owner/chef. Pepe.

Cafes

Central Perk - Café in the main street with wholesome snacks. Open to about 3pm.

Just outside Orba:
Restaurant Tormos
Very local Spanish food. Take the road out past the paper shop for just over a mile to the village of Tormos. The restaurant is on the left hand side of the main road.

Beyond Orba: But still within 15 minutes

Caval Verd (96-597-7345)

Drive here for a coffee and the views.
Magnificent views down the Orba valley and to the coast. Take the Fontiles road, through the picturesque village of Campell and take a sharp left on the road towards Fleix.

Alalmar Hotel (96-558-3397)
Further up the hill, almost at the top of the valley. Quite a drive and can be very local food!

El Cid
Just beyond Benidoleig towards Pedreguer. English run restaurant with bowling club and tennis court attached.

ALCALALI (10 minutes by car)

Los Solanos
Turn left at the junction in Alcalali and a little more than 100 metres and another left up the drive. Excellent choice and good food.

Just beyond on the road to Pedregeur is Restaurant Pepe (96-648-2456) Very much the ‘in’ restaurant at present. (Pepe)

Castellvi  (96-648-2481)
On the crossroads.

Our experience at these restaurants is that they can be very busy so booking is advisable and the portions are enormous and good value for money – although a little more expensive than the Orba village restaurants.

Parcent

Tramonti. Simple Spanish and usually good value. (on the road out towards Tarbena).

Pedregeur (15 Minutes by car)

Monroes. If you are desperate for a good English roast . Go to Pedreguer take a left towards the N332, at the mini roundabout turn right up the main street and carry on about a mile until you are nearly back on the N332. The restaurant is well signposted on the right hand side.

Also out of town

Casa Caty if visiting Jalon

Verd I Vent (96-597-3413) which is on the Bernia road out of Jalon - just keep driving towards Bernia and eventually you will find a non-descript building on the left side of the road. This restaurant is out in the middle of nowhere and is only open at lunchtime (1pm), but serves multiple courses of great food at a reasonable price. Despite its remote location, booking is strongly recommended. If booking ask for a table in the terrace room.

In many of the coastal towns – Denia, Javea, Calpe – you will find an abundance of restaurants. Especially good value are the Chinese restaurants. At lunchtime you can pay as little as €6 for a 3 course meal including wine! Do search the menu carefully for the best value package.
In Denia there are two on the main road on the left just before Lidl. There is a good one the Mediteraneo on the way to the hospital and near to Denia Market. Try the Asia at Las Marines or the Mandarin at Els Poblets. At Calpe we recommend the Gran Muralla (also now wok available).and on the road between Calpe and Moraira the Asia. ( Various Chinese Wok restaurants now available)

If you want a cheap English fish and chips or similar overlooking the sea try Scallops at Javea Arenal.often very busy (you will normally get a bottle of wine per person) Beware Spanish drink driving laws. They are even tighter than at home.
